What is LASIK?
Lasik is a procedure that corrects the refractive errors of the eye so that you can get rid of your glasses and contact lenses permanently! LASIK means Laser In Situ Keratomileusis (reshaping cornea).

The patient should be 18years of age and have stable numbers for 6 months; your Lasik surgeon decides the stability of Lasik after following tests:
- Pachymeter to determine the thickness of cornea
- Topography to study the surface curvature
- Retinal examination by a Retina specialist
Up to what number can the LASIK correct?
A wide range of refractive errors can be corrected including near sightedness, far sightedness and astigmatism.
- Near sightedness (Minus number) 0 to -12 Diopter
- Far sightedness (plus number) 0 to +5 Diopter
- Astigmatism (Cylindrical number) 0 to 6 Diopter cyl
Is the procedure painful?
The procedure as such is painless; some sensation of pressure may be experienced during the creation of flap. In the first few hours the eye may be uncomfortable, which settles down rapidly.
When I will see after Lasik?
You start seeing clearly from the next day. Infact one can drive the car the very next day. Further improvements occur gradually over the next few days.
How long do I need to be off work?
Generally you can resume work after 48 hours. However for people working in dusty environment, it is required to take rest for a few more days.
What precautions are required to take after LASIK?
Rubbing of the eyes are prohibited for a few weeks after Lasik. If accidentally rubbed in the first few days, it is advised to report to doctor.
