How to get rid of Heavy Menstruation?

Meaning of the term heavy menstruation

The menstrual cycle is very significant part of every woman life. It represents a monthly indicator of woman’s reproductive process. In normal menstrual cycle amount of blood that it is lost is about 2 ounces of blood or less. But, with condition such as heavy menstruation, also known as menorrhagia, that amount is much higher. Almost every woman experience it in their lifetime, but it is considered as common condition for premenopausal women. Normally, periods do not interfere in woman’s daily activities, however, that is not the case with menorrhagia that causes excessive bleeding and may even bind woman to bad during her period.
Problems with woman’s reproductive system
There are many causes of heavy menstruation; most of them are related to woman’s reproductive system and its imbalance, though some of them are unknown. Known causes are hormonal imbalance, dysfunctional ovaries, and benign tumor of the uterus, uterine polyps or having a higher number of pregnancies. Menorrhagia may also occur as a side effect of certain contraceptives, or as a result of improper use of hormone medications.  Rarely, inherited blood disorder or cancer can also trigger this kind of menstrual disorder. Whatever the cause heavy menstruation is a serious condition that includes anemia, menstrual cramps, infertility, and even in certain cases infection and toxic shock syndrome.

Blood lose

Setting the right diagnose is key factor in treating this condition. It is very tricky to determine the amounts of blood lose during the menstrual cycle, and some women may be deceived by this fact when considering menorrhagia. However, once the appropriate diagnose is set treatment can continue its regular course. Doctors prescribe iron supplement, to help fight the anemia, oral contraceptives, oral progesterone, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which are all part of drug therapy. If such therapy does not work surgery is an option. To help your organism fight menorrhagia you also need to make dietary adjustments and take a better menstrual hygiene.  

Take care of your body

Many factors contribute to occurrence of heavy menstruation, and though it can be treated it is not certain that it will not reappear sometimes in life. To reduce the possibility of getting these disorder women should make some life changes and regularly visit their doctor.
