Depression and Hair Loss

Depression is a serious medical illness. Depression is an illness that involves the body, mood, and thoughts. Depressed mood caused by substances (such as drugs, alcohol, medications) is  not considered a major depressive disorder, nor is one that is caused by a general  medical condition.

Dysthymia is characterized by an overwhelming yet chronic state of depression. It affects the way a person eats and sleeps, the way one feels about oneself, and the way one thinks about things.

Depressive disorders come in different forms, just as is the case with other illnesses such as heart disease. It's more than just a feeling of being "down in the dumps" or "blue" for a few days. If you are one of the more than 20 million people in the United States who have depression, the feelings do not go away.

Depression is very common and affects as many as one in eight people in their teen years. Depression affects people of every color, race, economic status, or age; however, it does seem to affect more females than males during adolescence and adulthood.

Many people just don't realize that depression can cause so many problems or so much pain. Some types of depression run in families, suggesting that a biological vulnerability can be inherited. This seems to be the case with bipolar disorder.

Hair is a very important element which can change our appearance. Hair loss seems to affect every gender and every age group. Hair loss for men can cause serious problems. Hair loss for men is a serious problem since this affects their appearance.

Depression can also affect the physical health in men differently from women mostly hair. A new study shows that, although depression is associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease in both men and women.

Many hormonal factors may contribute to the increased rate of depression in women particularly such factors as menstrual cycle changes, pregnancy, miscarriage, postpartum period, pre-menopause, and menopause.

Many women also face additional stresses such as responsibilities both at work and home, single parenthood, and caring for children and for aging parents. But there have been solutions devised to alleviate or even cure the hair loss. It is up to you to take the measures and invest time to search for the right treatment. No need to be depressed.

Many people think it as a helpless situation, but there are products and treatments available which are helpful and in some cases cure hair loss completely. Hair loss for men is a phenomena that has been researched for quite sometime now.
