Honey - Beauty Recipes with Honey - Best tips on Honey and its use

Honey is a natural humectant and helps to attract moisture to the skin from the atmosphere. Honey based creams, provide the skin with intensive moisturisation. They are ideal for dry and dehydrated skins. Honey Health Rehydrant Lotion is a light preparation that is suitable for all skin types.

Other known natural moisturisers like aloe vera, cactus and seaweed have been combined with extracts of rose, neem (margosa), mint, date, to formulate moisturising creams and masks. Such products contain medicinal properties that help to restore balances, soothe skin-sensitivity and inflammation and also provide ideal protection to the skin.

For normal to dry skins, use moisturising creams containing honey, along with a sandalwood protective cream to rehydrate the skin and prevent moisture loss.

Oily skins need moisturising too, especially in cold, dry weather. Use a light liquid moisturiser to seal in moisture and keep the outer layer soft and smooth.

Dab honey mixed with a little cinnamon directly on pimples and blackheads to help reduce redness and swelling. Do this at night before going to bed and rinse off in the morning. Honey is natural acne medicine that's much gentler to skin than over the counter beauty products containing alcohol.

Here are a few of our most popular skin treatments:

24-Karat Gold Silk Body Butter

  • 1/2 cup pure honey
  • 2/3 cup Shea Butter, (can substitute Cocoa Butter)
  • 3 Tablespoons wheat germ oil
  • 2 teaspoons grapefruit seed extract, optional
  • 3 drops sandalwood oil, optional
  • 2 to 3 sheets 24-karat gold leaf

Blend honey, Shea Butter and wheat germ oil until completely mixed. If using Cocoa Butter, soften in a double boiler or microwave. Add grapefruit seed extract and sandalwood oil. Crush 2 to 3 sheets of 24-karat gold leaf until almost powder consistency and add to mixture. Apply to clean, damp skin. Let absorb completely before wearing clothing.

Cranberry Lip Gloss

  • 1 Tablespoon sweet almond oil
  • 10 fresh cranberries
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 drop vitamin E oil

Mix all the ingredients together in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for two minutes or until the mixture just begins to boil. (Bowl may also be heated in a pan of water on a stovetop). Stir well and gently crush the berries. Cool mixture for five minutes and then strain through a fine sieve to remove all the fruit pieces. Stir again and set aside to cool completely. When cool, transfer into a small portable plastic container or tin. Apply a small amount onto your lips and remember to smile!

Cucumber-Honey Toner

1 medium cucumber, peeled and cut into pieces
2 teaspoons honey

Puree cucumber in a blender. Line a sieve with cheesecloth and set the sieve over a glass bowl or measuring cup. Pour the cucumber puree through the sieve and let it stand for 15 minutes for the juices to drip into the bowl. Pour the clear juice into a clean bottle and add honey. To use, shake the bottle and saturate a cotton pad with the lotion. Sweep over face, neck and chest morning and night, and let it air dry (about 3 to 4 minutes). Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Makes about 1/2 cup.

Hair Conditioner

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup olive oil, use 2 Tbsp. for normal hair

Mix honey and olive oil. Work a small amount at a time through hair until coated. Cover hair with shower cap; leave on 30 minutes. remove shower cap; shampoo well and rinse. Dry as normal.

Honey Cleansing Scrub

  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • 2 Tablespoons finely ground almonds
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Mix all ingredients. Rub gently onto face. Rinse off with warm water.

Rose Oil & Honey Facial Mask

  • 2 Tablespoons honey
  • 2 Tablespoons sweet almond oil
  • 5 drops essential oil of rose
  • 1 drop vitamin E oil

Mix honey, sweet almond oil and essential oil of rose. Massage onto clean face and neck with fingertips. Relax for 15 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water. Gently pat dry to reveal a fresh, soft complexion.

Purely Honey Face Treat

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 Tablespoons pomegranate juice
  • 1 handful pitted cherries
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 banana, optional

Blend all ingredients together and rub onto clean, dry skin. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes, then remove with damp sponge or a soft facial cloth. Pat dry and apply moisturizer.
